Life in 2006

25-01-06

We are now well into 2006 and are looking forward to the 16 new OmniDekkas expected in Reading at the end of March along with the associated fleet and service changes. After some glitches over Christmas the real time system is fully operational again having gone network-wide at some point in the second half of 2005. As not all of the fleet is fitted with the associated equipment yet it is still only the 'quality routes' that are 100% guaranteed to predict every departure, but a large proportion other journeys do appear on the relevant signs as well. Other than the 'quality' fleet most of the Excels and low floor Spectras appear to be fitted with the equipment.

Soon to be withdrawn Olympian 14 standing by the real time display for route 44 at stop SB yesterday. The predicted arrival time of a bus disappears as soon as the bus arrives - even if it is due to sit at the stop for several minutes. In this case though the bus wasn't predicted at all because the Olympians aren't fitted with the necessary equipment.

Short OmniDekka 818 made an unusual appearance on DayTrack today.

Things are also set to change on the Thames Valley Park Shuttle during 2006 with five new Scania OmniCity single deckers on order for delivery in June/July to replace the four existing Optare Excel2s.
