Closure of Station Road

07-02-11

Station Road was closed today for reconstruction works scheduled to last until 17th April. This necessitated a number of minor diversions around the Town Centre with buses towards the Station diverted via Friar Street East, and buses from the Station diverted via Blagrave Street. Buses on routes 2/2A, 22, 23, 24 towards Caversham are serving temporary stops in Friar Street East (normally used by the 1, 2/2A and 24 towards West Reading!) and on Forbury Road outside the Apex Plaza, whilst buses towards West Reading are using a temporary stop in Blagrave Street. Routes 26 and 500 are not serving the Station, with the 26 waiting time at it's normal stop on Friar Street East.

Work was already well underway on Station Road this morning.

Meanwhile the minor realignment work continues on Forbury Road outside the former Great Western Hotel and on Friar Street West, and work to resurface St Mary's Butts also started today with various bus stop closures scheduled to last until 20th February. Sunday 17th April will see the completion of all the major preparatory works required for the new Station entrance and revised Town Centre road layout which will see the largest change to Town Centre routes since the pedestrianisation of Broad Street in the 1990s.
