Simplified Tickets for Reading and Newbury

03-04-10

Tuesday 6th sees Reading Transport launch a simplified range of day and season tickets for its services in Reading and Newbury. The various zones and areas will be replaced with just three - simply Reading, simply Newbury and simply Network - which has brought about new "simply Bus" branding to help publicise the changes. In readiness for the change, the fares information on the window by the door of each bus has been updated with the new brand name and prices, and a few adverts have appeared on the sides of buses around the fleet.

1110 on 3 April 2010

This new advert looks particularly smart in the new advert frames on recent ethanol convert 1110.

815 on 3 April 2010

815 is spreading the message around Lower Earley.

847 on 3 April 2010

A third advert is on 847 - but can you spot the mistake? It very nearly passes as modern text message abbreviations! There is also a smaller advert on the rear of this bus.

It is not yet clear whether these changes are in place of an annual fares review (one could have been due in Newbury from 20th April and Reading from 1st June) but the new range does increase the price of season tickets for a number of areas (notably the North, South, East and West Reading weekly tickets) and increases the Reading day ticket (Busabout) from £3.50 to £3.80. However, all ordinary single and return tickets are unchanged so the opportunity is being taken to make the most of the benefits that the new range provides rather than focusing on the negatives. Notably the new network weekly ticket is 35% cheaper than before, making commuting on routes like the 1 from Newbury to Reading much more attractive.
