September 2010 < Last Month | News Archive | Next Month > Newbury Show & Other Developments 18-09-09 Today saw the start of this years Royal County of Berkshire Show in Newbury. Newbury Buses ran their N10 shuttle service from Newbury Bus Station and Thatcham Broadway to the showground near Hermitage using Optare Spectras 724 and 728 borrowed from Reading. 728 leaving Newbury Bus Station for the show ground with it's specially programmed destination display. 724 arriving at Thatcham Broadway with the return destination Thatcham via Newbury. Following reductions to the Vodafone network from 31 August, the two MANs 51/52 and Solo 110 appear to have become surplus to requirements. 110 has replaced 126 which was recently destroyed by fire, whilst 51 is being used as a standby bus for the V1/V2 until 24 September, 52 is thought to have departed Newbury. Additionally, with unique MAN double decker 501 away for attention at the manufacturers 818 has transferred from Reading to fill in on The Link, Wright bodied members of the Vodafone fleet have also made a few appearances. 51 on The Link today. A single decker is sometimes allocated on a Saturday (normally 974), freeing up 501 for the Reading football match days when special service 78 runs. 1037 also made an unusual appearance on The Link today as a swap for 51, having also made an appearance on the route last Saturday. With no football today 818 was used on the twice-a-day 15 before spending the afternoon in the bus station, as seen above. New SimplyUni 12-09-10 Reading Buses have launched a new SimplyUni ticket aimed at students returning to Reading University this autumn. To help advertise it route 20/21 branded OmniDekka 811 has received additional branding in place of the 'quality travel for Reading' strap line on the side of the vehicle, and on the front window. 811 at Reading Station yesterday.
