October 2014 < Last Month | News Archive | Next Month > Friar Street Returns to Normal-ish 13-10-14 Normal two way working returned to Friar Street on 9th October following gas main replacement works which commenced in April, although work in parts of the Town Centre continues. Various diversions and bus stop alterations have been in place during various phases of the work, with the main continuous one being the Friar Street westbound bus lane / West Street southbound bus lane / St Marys Butts southbound route being closed with buses diverted via the Market Place and Minster Street. Diversions remain in place on the inbound Pink Routes due to building/road works in Blagrave Street, which are mostly arriving via Caversham Road instead of The Forbury. 842 on the recently introduced 15A short working to Dee Road on diversion through the Market Place on 8th September. The Green Bus / Reading College branded 1107 helping out on route 23 on 11th October. Meanwhile it's a catch-up on other new arrivals. With no sign of the new Enviro 400s in service (yet) the demonstrators remain in service. Enviro 350H demonstrator 498 is appearing sporadically across the Reading network, whilst 199 is in regular use at Newbury covering the Vodafone fleet (rather than 654 which is apparently intended to be used for this in future years). 199 at Newbury depot on 28 September 2014.
