Closure of Jacksons

28-12-13

2pm on Christmas Eve saw the closure of Reading's long established traditional department store Jacksons. Founded in 1875, the family owned store started out as a gentlemen's outfitters at No 6 High Street, but changes to the layout of Kings Road in 1890 to allow the town's horse tram system a direct route into Broad Street led to the demolition of the adjoining units and the creation of Jackson's Corner.
