Here are details about previous bus fares scales charged by
Newbury Buses.
Single Bus Fares
A Zonal bus fare system has been operated by Newbury Buses since at least 2000. The
former fares system involved a large number of fare stages throughout the town, and
passengers were charged depending on which stages they travelled between. In general a
fare stage would be every 2 or 3 stops, and the fare to a certain location increased every
1, 2 or 3 fare stages further away. You can see an old Reading Mainline fare table here.
Now the Newbury / Thatcham area is split up into zones, and the fare you pay is based
on the number of zones that you travel through.
