Station Disruptions

27-08-05

One or two events in Reading recently have led to some disruption in the vicinity of the station. On the morning of 22nd August Tudor Road was closed by the police whilst they were trying to get a man down from the roof of one of the buildings in the area. Buses were diverted via Friar Street and Greyfriars Road.

This weekend sees the annual Rock Festival at Rivermead, and the myriad of visitors associated with it. Some of the stops on the side of Station Hill nearest the Station had to be closed on Friday evening due to the large number of people walking down to Rivermead, with buses departing from stop SJ on the central stand instead. Notices on the stops suggest that the same may also have applied at other times. Also the Caversham-bound stops at Caversham Road Fire Station, Swansea Road and The Moderation were suspended from 8.35am on Thursday 25th until the end of service on Friday 26th due to the heavy traffic.

Special rock festival service 98 has been in operation as usual. This year a large poster version of the special leaflet was posted on the "Plus Bus" Reading bus information board directly outside the station to help attract attention to the service. Then the same special flag from last year was put up at stop SA, along with the information about the service on a notice.
